This article explains how to reset or edit Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in UltimateTax for both the Online and Desktop versions. Use the steps below based on the product version and user type.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have the correct access and account details for the user whose MFA needs to be updated.
Online: Admin access is required.
Desktop: Admin access is required to reset MFA for non-admin users.
Desktop admin reset: You will need the EFIN, Registration Code, and Client ID.
Reset or edit MFA in UltimateTax Online
Use these steps to update the phone number used for MFA in UltimateTax Online.
Log in to UltimateTax Online with an Admin account.
Select the Administrator menu in the top-right corner of the screen.
Click Settings.
Click Manage Users.
Find the affected user and click Edit.
Update the phone number used for MFA on the user profile screen.
Reset MFA in UltimateTax Desktop
The Desktop version uses different steps depending on whether you are resetting MFA for the Admin user or a non-admin user.
Reset MFA for the Admin user
From the Login screen, open the File menu.
Select Reset Admin Password and Device Pairing.
Enter the EFIN, Registration Code, and Client ID.
Complete the reset process to clear the Admin MFA pairing.
Reset MFA for a non-admin user
Log into UltimateTax Desktop as an Admin user.
Navigate to Setup Assistant.
Open the Manage Users screen.
Select the user whose MFA pairing needs to be reset.
Reset the user’s MFA pairing from the user management screen.
