8582-CR - Passive Activity Credit Limitations

What is the form used for? :

  • Noncorporate taxpayers use Form 8582-CR to: Figure the amount of any passive activity credit (PAC) for the current tax year (including any prior year unallowed credits) and the amount of credit allowed for the current year. 
  • Make the election increase the basis of credit property when a taxpayer disposes of his or her interest in an activity.

How to access the form: To access the form, you will need to open a 1040/Business return on the online/desktop and then go to Add Form/Display and type 8582CR.

Limits to the form: The business variant of this form can only be accessed from the desktop software. This form cannot be copied. This is only available in the 1040 and 1041 packages.
