4868 - Automatic Extension of Time To File Individual Tax

What is the form used for? :

• The 4868 is used when a taxpayer wants to apply for a six-month extension to file their 1040s.
• Do not include an extension of the time of payment.  Taxes are due on the original due date.

How to access the form: To access the form you will need to open a 1040 return on the Online/desktop and on the main info under the section for what type of form is being E-filed select the 4686.
