1040-SS - U.S. Self-Employment Tax Return

What is the form used for?

  • The form's purpose is to report net earnings from self-employment (SE) to the United States and, if necessary, pay SE tax on that income. The Social Security Administration (SSA) uses this information to determine your benefits under the social security program. SE tax applies no matter how old you are and even if you are already receiving social security or Medicare benefits.

How to access the form: To access the form, you will need to open a 1040 return online/desktop, and at the top of the Main info, there is a check box for 1040 PR when loading the 1040 SS
