IND-508 usually occurs when somebody else files a joint return and has entered your Social Security number for their spouse.
- IND-508: Primary SSN in the Return must not be equal to the Spouse SSN on another tax return for which filing status is Married Filing Jointly or [filing status is Head of Household and the Spouse exemption is claimed].
The rejection can also mean that somebody else filed a return using your (or your spouse's) Social Security number.
Solution: Verify the Primary SSN with the information on the Social Security Card. If the information matches exactly and you believe this is in error, you will need to paper file the return.
